April Coffee of the Month: Jarama

Sourced from the lush hills of Cyiya Village in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District, this month’s coffee is a true reflection of its origin. Grown at elevations between 1700–1900 masl in rich volcanic soil, these locally grown Bourbon varieties thrive in the cool climate near Nyungwe Forest—one of the country’s most prized coffee-growing regions.

This lot comes from the Jarama Washing Station, operated by the Kivubelt group. Since 2011, Kivubelt has worked alongside more than 500 smallholder farmers, focusing on improving quality while creating better opportunities for the community. Through training, fair pricing, and quality-based incentives—often paying significantly above market rates—they’re helping farmers produce exceptional coffee year after year.

Carefully fully washed and roasted to a medium level (leaning slightly light), this coffee is crafted to highlight its natural sweetness and vibrant fruit character.

In the cup:

A smooth, well-balanced profile with layered notes of peach and guava, complemented by brown sugar sweetness, delicate tea-like florals, and a soft caramel finish.
