A Coffee Grown in the Highlands
Nestled in the mountains of the Jiwaka Province, coffee farms average only a few acres and are cared for by individual families who have cultivated these lands for generations. The region's rich volcanic soil, cool mountain climate, and elevations between 1,500 and 1,700 meters create ideal growing conditions for exceptional specialty coffee.
Unlike large commercial farms, producers here rely primarily on family labor and natural farming practices. Every harvest represents months of hard work, from carefully picking ripe coffee cherries to preparing them for processing.
A Better Path to Quality
For many years, one of the biggest challenges in Papua New Guinea wasn't growing incredible coffee—it was getting it to market.
That's changing thanks to Monpi Coffee Exporters, who have invested in centralized processing, drying infrastructure, warehouses, and logistics that support more than 1,000 smallholder farmers throughout the Waghi Valley.
Instead of every farmer needing expensive processing equipment, growers can focus on harvesting only the ripest cherries while Monpi handles the meticulous floating, drying, quality control, and export process. The result is better coffee, more consistent quality, and increased income for farming families.
What Makes This Coffee Special?
Our July selection is processed using the Natural Process, meaning the coffee cherries are dried whole under the Papua New Guinea sun before the beans are removed.
This method allows the fruit's natural sugars to enhance the coffee, creating a cup that's vibrant, complex, and full of sweetness.
