Coffee of the Month – July: Papua New Guinea Paraka Koi Natural

Every month, I look for a coffee that not only tastes incredible but also has a story worth sharing. This month's selection from Papua New Guinea checks both boxes.

Our July Coffee of the Month is Paraka Koi Natural, grown in the Jiwaka Province of Papua New Guinea. Coffee here is grown high in the mountains, between 1,500 and 1,700 meters above sea level, where rich volcanic soil and a cooler climate help produce exceptional coffee.

What I love most about this origin is that the coffee is grown by hundreds of small farming families. Most of these farms are only a few acres, and the growers rely on their families to plant, harvest, and care for the coffee. Their dedication and attention to detail are what make coffees like this so special.

One of the biggest challenges these farmers face isn't growing great coffee—it's getting that coffee processed and exported. That's where Monpi Coffee Exporters has made a real difference. By investing in shared processing facilities, drying infrastructure, and transportation, they're helping more than a thousand local producers bring higher-quality coffee to roasters around the world while creating better opportunities for the farming communities.

This coffee is naturally processed, meaning the coffee cherries are dried with the fruit still surrounding the bean before it's removed. That extra time with the fruit creates a cup that's sweet, fruity, and incredibly complex.
